I know people that watch TV, read, exercise, and who are successful. It is urban mythology that watching TV will keep you from getting a better job or losing weight, it just depends on how much you watch.

Okay, the TV scapegoating has got to stop. If you're going to get rid of television then you have to get rid of movies and video games too. Because obviously you can do better things with your time that make money than them. And reading books and going to seminars does not sound like comfort food to me. In fact, there are some TV shows out there I would not qualify as comfort foods either or at least, healthy comfort food. Have you ever watched The Wire? If not, then I recommend watching before you say all TV is crap. It is brilliant and shows city living from all different sides commenting on society and not shying away from all the horible things (and the why of them) that occur. In this day and age, TV programming is getting more and more intelligent and is a valid choice for the human need for narrative. No matter what medium you prefer, every one is valid and every person should have the choice of what to read/watch without someone making incredibly broad negative generalizations about many different shows out there. People, especially younger ones no longer just spend long hours of time watching TV but choose and decide what shows to watch, when they want to watch them

Plus it's mostly free! Can't beat that. Like a diet, it's a matter of letting yourself have some treats now and then based on your own preferences that may have nothing to do with money making but provide satisfaction no matter what it might be. The concept that TV is bad for you is outdated and ridiculous and makes me automatically get angry-which is not fun when I genuinely am enjoying reading your blog.
